Pants are hard to fit, easy to sew and FUN to design! Joyce Murphy drafts a Custom Pants Block for you and teaches you how to design from it to create an entire wardrobe of pants that you will love to wear. Only 3 participants insures that individual needs are met.

Workshop Includes

Minimum of 2 1/2 hours of personal time in two separate appointments. During this time, Joyce fits pants (sample pants and pants sewn in class), creates the custom pattern, alters pants if needed and corrects the pattern accordingly for each participant one at a time.

Ample construction time for participants to sew a pair of khakis in class. Fabric and notions for pants are provided.

Plenty of class time to learn how to design pockets and waistbands including a contour waistband that sits at, above or below the waist. Tips for changing the custom pattern for different fabrics or when our bodies change are included.

About the 4-Day Schedule

Weekend workshops begin at 4 p.m. on Friday and end at noon on Monday for all participants. Schedules vary slightly over the weekend to allow for individual appointment times, but basically run from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. with breaks in the middle.

Weekday workshops follow the same schedule as the weekend workshops only they begin on Monday or Tuesday and end on Thursday or Friday.

About the Accommodations

Joyce rents a one-bedroom suite in a hotel (a Hilton - Homewood Suites or a Marriott - Residence Inn for example) for her sleeping quarters at night and the classroom during the day. Overnight accommodations for students are generally available at hotels where workshops are held. Commuting to class daily for those who live nearby is an option.

About the Price

Maximum total price for the workshop is $795 per person. Actual price is often less.

Basic tuition is $650. (If you are an ASG or ASDP member, discount this by 10%).

Expenses add from $45 to $145 per person based upon the cost for Joyce to fly or drive to the workshop location(s) from her home base in Michigan, the number of workshops scheduled per business trip and the cost of accommodations in a given area.

Please Bring

A sewing machine in good working that you are comfortable using. (Beginning level sewing experience is all that is needed as long as you know how to thread your machine, adjust the tension and sew a consistent seam allowance.)
